Onboarding

How we help every new teammate go from their first day to leading work with confidence.

Onboarding is about more than access and accounts. It's how you learn our systems, our business and our culture, until you're ready to lead work yourself.

Who helps you

  • Your hiring manager coordinates your onboarding, owns your onboarding project in Linear, and checks in with you on each milestone in your monthly 1:1s.
  • Your onboarding buddy walks you through onboarding and is your go-to person for questions while you get up to speed on the team and the organization.

For every new teammate

People and context. Meet your manager, your buddy and the people you'll work with. Learn what KODE does and who our customers are.

Access and setup. Get approved equipment, accounts and the required security guidance. Each step in your onboarding project has a named person responsible for it.

Fresh eyes. You'll notice what's confusing in our onboarding and this handbook faster than anyone. Fix it or flag it. That's leave it better from your first week.

Early feedback. Check in early: do you understand what's expected, can you get help when you need it, and do you know what to learn next? Read Culture, and tell us if anything you see doesn't match it.

Engineering onboarding

Engineers move through three stages: first our systems, then our business, then leading the work. Everyone ramps up differently, so treat the days as goals, not deadlines.

Engineering and product, together

Getting to project lead depends on good communication between engineering and product. Product shares the context behind the work at every stage, and new engineers keep asking until the why is clear. See KODE Kanban.
