Choose the work
Business priorities become projects, and we take on the work we have the capacity to do well.
From priority to project
Product works with business leaders, such as operations, finance and client services, to understand what the business needs and which priorities matter most. Product combines those priorities with an early sense of effort to decide which features to pursue.
Each project starts in Linear with a one-page brief attached. Sometimes a prototype or proof of concept adds context, so the team can see the idea before anyone writes requirements.
Match the work to capacity
Engineering leadership uses the Linear roadmap and workload dashboards to choose an available project lead and supporting engineers. Assignments can shift as needs change.
We don't set a fixed limit on how many projects run at once. We take on the work we have the capacity to deliver well. One engineer may start shaping the next project while others finish their current work.
Smaller requests
Not everything is a project. Smaller items and future requests go into the ongoing 1-Offs project in Linear. Product usually creates and prioritizes those stories, and engineers pull high-priority ones when they have capacity, for example between projects. Particularly urgent or critical work goes to engineering leadership, who assign it directly.
